Told to play as a left-back by Rudi Garcia during his time at Lyon, Maxwel Cornet had to reinvent himself somewhat over the past year.
He played a fair amount in his new position, but Peter Bosz, who took over from the French manager this summer, doesn’t appear to have much use for him, even if he has played him once in the first three games this season.
The idea would be to sell the Ivorian, and Burnley in the Premier League appear happy to invest some money in the player.
The Clarets have been linked a number of times this summer with Cornet, and were they to succeed in their endeavours, it would be interesting to see whether Sean Dyche decides to use him as a left-back or in a more advanced position, where he first made a name for himself.
Either way, Foot Mercato in France explain that following Lyon accepting a €16m bid from Burnley for the player, his signing at Turf Moor is ‘imminent’.
It’s stated the Premier League side ‘put together a seduction operation to convince Cornet to join them’, which appears to have worked since ‘multiple corroborating sources believe the transfer of the 24-year-old is going in the right direction’.
In fact, it could even happen ‘in the next few hours’.
One to keep an eye on today, then.
