Vincent Kompany arrived at Burnley last year and guided the club to promotion back to the Premier League.
The manager brought in a few players from the Belgian market in the last two windows and continues to look at the same market for the summer.
That’s according to Het Nieuwsblad, who say Burnley have identified Standard Liège’s Gojko Cimirot as a target.
The Jupiler Pro League side face the ‘danger of losing’ the 30-year-old after this season. His contract expires in June and his club have offered him a three-year deal.
Cimirot hasn’t accepted the renewal offer because of the wages, given he’ll have to take a 30% pay cut. He seems to be in favour of joining another club instead of accepting Standard’s proposal to sign an extension.
Het Nieuwsblad’s title states Burnley and Royal Antwerp want the Bosnia and Herzegovina international. Within the report, it’s said Kompany’s side and Antwerp are ‘ready’ to sign the player in the summer.
Cimirot has mainly operated as a defensive midfielder, while he’s also been used in the middle of the pitch and as a centre-back on a few occasions this season, where he’s made 35 appearances.
