Burnley and Southampton are in advanced negotiations for the transfer of Benson Manuel, according to claims from Belgium.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri today writes that the 26-year-old is ‘closer than ever’ to joining the Saints.

It’s said Southampton and Burnley have been in ‘concrete talks’ in the past few days, and are now close to finding an agreement.

The Saints would be signing Manuel on a paid loan with the option to buy him at the end of the season.

According to Tavolieri, there’s a strong wish from the player to make the move to Southampton. It’s said he ‘chose’ for the St. Mary’s side and ‘wants’ it done.

For now, there’s no information on how much will be paid for the loan, or even the price for the permanent transfer.

Manuel barely played for Burnley this season, with only 100 minutes in five appearances, and is clearly looking for a place where he can get more minutes on the pitch.

Southampton have a tough job getting a place back in the Premier League, and seem to trust his recovery to help them achieve that.
