On deadline day, we covered surprising claims from the Portuguese media which once again linked Jovane Cabral to Burnley.
It was well known that the Clarets had already tried the player in the last summer window, and with their chase being unsuccessful, that rumour had been long gone.
So it was weird to see Burnley involved in that pursuit once again, this time being said to be waiting for a ‘positive answer’ from the player to join them on the last day of the winter market.
Unsurprisingly, that move did not happen, with the winger heading to Real Valladolid.
As reported by newspaper O Jogo, he’s joining the Spanish side on a loan until the end of the season, with a buying option worth €4m.
In their story, the newspaper points out that Burnley had indeed ‘followed’ the winger, but he actually ‘preferred’ going to the La Liga side instead.
It’s hard to tell whether the Clarets’ pursuit was real or not, but, either way, Jovane is set to have more playing time in Spain, as he only had 170 minutes on the pitch for Sporting this season.
