Burnley have recently re-opened talks with Manchester City over a possible loan move for Sergio Gomez, but the defender is uninterested at this point.
That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who says Vincent Kompany is a fan of the player but unlikely to get him for now.
The Burnley coach is busy strengthening his squad ahead of their return to the Premier League next season after a dominant campaign in the Championship last season.
Plenty of signings are expected, with the manager likely to again focus on players he knows well or from the Belgian market, where he’s already bought several players from.
Gomez would certainly fit into the former category having managed 47 games under Kompany at Anderlecht before his move to Manchester City in August last year.
And he is keen on a reunion with his former player at Burnley but unfortunately that interest is not reciprocated at this moment in time.
Tavolieri reports that talks have been held over a potential loan deal but the Spanish defender ‘prefers to stay’ at Manchester City and impress Pep Guardiola during pre-season training in an attempt to improve his standing at the Etihad.
If that works remains to be seen but for now it means he is seemingly ignoring the interest from Kompany and Burnley.
