According to a claim in the Italian media, Watford have made a last minute attempt to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Aleksandar Dragovic.

The Austria international has been linked with a move to Serie A in recent days, but a move to Italy is now looking unlikely.

TMW have reported from the Melia Hotel in Milan, where agents gather in the last days of the window to get deals across the line. It’s claimed Watford have tabled a bid for Dragovic in the last few hours, and now Bayer Leverkusen are evaluating this.

Watford have been given a boost to sign the central defender after reports emerged Inter Milan and AS Roma look to be out of the picture to sign the player.

Olympiacos were also rumoured yesterday to be in the race to sign Dragovic, but today they announced the arrival of Belgian defender Bjorn Engels from Club Brugge.

Watford have already been busy in the transfer market today, after confirmation they’ve taken Udinese goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis on loan for the season, despite competition from Napoli.
