Bruno Fernandes was again excellent for Manchester United as they beat Arsenal on penalties in Sunday’s big FA Cup fixture.

The Portugal international scored the first goal of the game and converted Manchester United’s first shootout spot-kick, and generally played a big part in helping his team progress to the next round.

Fernandes had also been impressive against Liverpool in the Premier League the week before and it looks as though his recent red-card break was what he needed to refresh and subsequently shine under Ruben Amorim.

After the match, the Manchester United captain was in demand in the media and TNT Sports Mexico managed to grab him for a quick chat.

He conducted the interview in fluent Spanish, and when asked about his plans for 2025, the midfielder made it clear he aims to get his head down, work hard, and give his all for Amorim and the Old Trafford club.

TNT Mexico quote Fernandes as saying: “It is always my purpose in each year to be a better person, to be a better player, to be better in everything I can do. To improve as a player, to improve in all the tactical and technical aspects, everything, because I believe that we always have something to learn, we always have something more to do, to improve. So I will continue working, doing what the coach asks of me, what the team needs, what the club needs, to get back to where it needs to be.”

Looking ahead to the club’s next Premier League match, Fernandes was equally as demanding of himself and his team: “There are things to improve, there are others that we have to maintain and the most important thing is to look ahead. Now we have a very difficult match where obviously after these two matches everyone sees us as favourites as it should be playing at home against Southampton.

“Southampton is in a very difficult moment where they need points but we have to understand that we are not in the position in which we have to be, and we need more points. And we are thinking like this to win this match, to understand that the level we maintain in these two matches has to be maintained for Southampton and then for the ones that come after.”
