Bruno Fernandes has been speaking to the Portuguese media ahead of the country’s national team taking on Poland in the UEFA Nations League.
The Manchester United captain spoke about his struggles at Manchester United this season, and how going away with Portugal is proving to be something of a nice escape for him.
He was also asked about Rúben Amorim, with the Sporting manager even being linked with Manchester City this week.
Amorim spoke to West Ham United in the summer but didn’t appear keen on the role and those talks created huge controversy around Sporting.
The manager apologised, repeatedly, but it’s still thought that a move to the Premier League is on the cards in the near future. He’s also been linked to Manchester United, where Erik ten Hag is under continued pressure due to style and results.
At a press conference today, Bruno Fernandes was asked about Amorim and whether he’s ready for a big move to the Premier League.
It’s worth noting the question was likely motivated by Amorim’s recent success, and eight straight victories, rather than a direct hint at the Manchester City or Manchester United jobs.
Sporting are top of Liga Portugal, with eight wins from eight, scoring 27 goals and conceding only two.
CNN Portugal quote the Manchester United captain as saying: “Since Mister Amorim arrived at Sporting, it has been one of the teams to play the best football. They have been consistent, the signings have been right and they are in a very good moment. It’s a very well prepared team.
“In relation to Amorim, he shows that he is prepared at this moment. Coaching Sporting and winning championships is not easy, Sporting went 20 years without winning championships and Amorim arrived and has already won two, this shows that the work has been done well.
“If he could manage to do the same in England, Spain or anywhere else, you will never know until you get there, but I’m sure their qualities are there for everyone to see.”
