According to Calciomercato, Parma could be demoted from Serie A after allegations their forward Emanuele Calaio tried to illegally influence their game against Spezia last season, by obtaining ‘a lower competitive commitment from the players of Spezia’.
Parma were promoted to the top flight after being demoted a few season ago to Serie D after going into liquidation. Since getting back into Serie A Parma have been linked with a number of players including Rangers defender Bruno Alves.
Alves looks to be on the verge of joining the Italian club just one season after arriving at Ibrox, with reports he’s travelled to Italy for a medical.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has already brought in Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic to strengthen in defence, but there must be now doubts whether Alves will be heading to Parma.
The Portugal international looks to be surplus to requirements under Gerrard, but it’s hard to see the defender joining Parma with these allegations hanging over them.
Calaio reportedly contacted players from Spezia to ask them to decrease their commitment levels when they faced his team during the later stages of the season. It’s reported if found guilty the player could receive a long ban and that Parma may be demoted from Serie A.
