The brother of Stefano Okaka has told the Italian media Jiangsu Suning tried to sign his client in the last transfer window. The Italy international signed for Watford form Anderlecht in the summer despite the attentions from several clubs.
Calciomercato have reported on comments Okaka’s brother and also agent made to Sky Italia after being asked about the interest from China. The player’s agent confirmed they were in talks with Jiangsu Suning with regards to a move, and that the Chinese club were keen on the Italian forward.
However, he said in the end talks broke down, but is unsure what the reason was. Okaka’s agent believes the forward made the right decision joining Watford, and doesn’t expect a return to Italy any time soon.
“They were looking for a forward, we got to the table, started the negotiations. They chose another player, I do not know. With Mazzarri it’s great. We’re thanful for the great opportunity. I do not think we will return to Italy in January, he has signed for 5 years and he’s fine here.”
Okaka signed for Watford in the last window after impressing for Anderlecht last season, but has played just one league game for the club. With his lack of chances at Watford it was always likely he would be linked with a move back to Serie A following his spell with Sampdoria, but it seems he’s set to remain in the Premier League.
