It’s been over a month since Victor Osimhen completed a move to Napoli from Lille, after being linked to top clubs in England.

On August 31st, the striker’s agent claimed Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur tried to sign his client ‘until the end’ before he sealed a big money to the Naples club.

Manchester United also wanted to sign the 21-year-old this summer, according to new Napoli player’s brother, Andrew Osimhen.

A move to Old Trafford could have seen the former Ligue 1 star become the second Nigerian to join the Red Devils, after Odion Ighalo.

Andrew has now told the Nigerian media his brother turned down a chance to join United because of his compatriot.

“It is very true that Manchester United wanted Victor but he told me something like he had too much respect for Odion Ighalo to be competing for shirts with his senior colleague,” Andrew told Complete Sports.

“My brother holds Ighalo in high esteem and he just didn’t see himself going to Old Trafford to battle for a striking role with the highest goalscorer at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side took the former Watford attacker on loan from Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua at the start of this year and then extended his temporary stay until January 2021.
