Chelsea have been pushed forward as one of the contenders for Leandro Trossard ever since Graham Potter left Brighton & Hove Albion for the west London club in September.
The winger, who has been also used as a wing-back this season, has refused to rule out a move to join the Blues.
Ahead of Brighton’s clash against Chelsea at The Amex on Saturday, Het Belang van Limburg have a report focusing on the 27-year-old.
The Belgium international has scored six goals in the league this season, out of which four came against Liverpool and Manchester City. The newspaper questions if the tie against Chelsea is the ‘time for an open application for a top transfer’.
With claims of Chelsea and other clubs being interested in the player, the newspaper talks about his future at Brighton.
Trossard’s deal will expire at the end of this campaign and Roberto De Zerbi’s side retain an option to extend it further until 2024.
Earlier reports had indicated they are not keen to exercise this option, wanting something longer term. However, HBVL now explain the Seagulls will ‘do so anyway’ since the negotiations have been ‘dragging on for a while’.
This would make any potential deal difficult in January. The report further explains Trossard’s suitors will have to pay a ‘hefty fee’ to take him away from Brighton in the winter market.
