Brighton & Hove Albion’s interest in Maycon is today backed up in the Brazilian media.
It was on Monday that the Seagulls’ chase for the player was first reported. That was a story from UOL which said the Premier League side, along with FC Porto, had made approaches for the signing.
Maycon belongs to Shakhtar Donetsk, but is on loan at Corinthians until the end of the year. The Brazilian club want to keep him, but his stay becomes very unlikely once European clubs join the battle to buy him.
So as Goal Brasil today features a report about the situation, it’s ‘confirmed’ that Brighton and Porto are the ‘main interested’ clubs. It’s once again pointed out that Seagulls boss Roberto de Zerbi worked with the player in Ukraine, and could meet him again in England.
Shakhtar Donetsk are expected to demand between €6m and €8m for the sale. The transfer may be left for the summer if they agree an option with Corinthians to extend the loan for six more months.
Regarding the player’s preference, Goal Brasil only says Maycon doesn’t want a ‘fight’ with any of the sides and won’t ‘force’ any kind of situation. For now, there’s no information on how far Brighton’s talks with the Ukrainian club have gone.
