For the past few days, we’ve seen reports from Argentina showing that Brighton & Hove Albion’s chase for Independiente youngster Alan Velasco is pretty serious.
The Seagulls seem to have made two bids for the winger already, as they try to match the price demanded by the South American side.
But it seems Graham Potter’s side won’t have an easy path to land Velasco.
First because Newcastle United were pointed out as competition, and now there are a few French sides listed in the race as well.
According to Foot Mercato, the likes of Lille, Lyon and Monaco are all interested in the player as well.
They’ve been following the player for months and could finally move for his signing in the summer, and the French champions would be quite an attractive option, as they’ll feature in the Champions League next season.
Following reports that Independiente turned down bids of €8m from Brighton, since they demand the €19m from his release clause, it’s now claimed that a cheque of €10m could actually be enough to sign the winger.
The Seagulls seem close to matching that, but they should now be aware that the fight for him is getting bigger.
