On Thursday, the Italian press reported on AS Roma’s interest in Brighton midfielder Matt O’Riley.
New Giallorossi manager Gian Piero Gasperini had tried to sign the Dane from Celtic when in charge at Atalanta last summer. There was some annoyance at Atalanta that O’Riley ultimately went to Brighton instead.
La Repubblica now have more on Roma’s interest in the midfielder.
The newspaper, as relayed by LaRoma24, claim Roma are looking to replace Leandro Paredes this summer and Brighton’s O’Riley is quickly emerging as a key option.
They also claim that the Seagulls would be open to selling the Denmark international and similar has been mentioned in other reports from Italy over the past two weeks.
La Repubblica believe Brighton will ‘gladly accept’ €25m in the summer and Roma can land the player easily, if they meet that valuation.
Fabian Hurzeler’s side had signed the ex-Hoops player for a fee of £25m. Due to that, the numbers put forward by the newspaper feel a bit optimistic.
Even if O’Riley didn’t quite make a mark during the 2024/25 season, letting him depart after just a single season for a discounted fee doesn’t feel like something that a club like Brighton would do.
