It was in January that Brighton & Hove Albion closed an €8m deal with Argentinos Juniors for the transfer of Alexis Mac Allister.
The Seagulls let the player stay at his club for six more months, as he was supposed to be moving to England in the summer only.
But it turns out that Mac Allister never got his European passport, and Brighton ended up finding a deal with Boca Juniors to keep him in Argentina for one more season.
The player remains in Buenos Aires, and today, it’s been claimed that his transfer to the Premier League side is being investigated..
La Provincia reports Argentinos Juniors’ headquarters were yesterday visited, after ‘criminal and correctional judge’ Martín Yadarola gave the orders over suspicions of ‘a fraud caused by the club’s own directors’.
Mac Allister’s transfer is one of the three which are said to be under investigation.
There’s absolutely no suggestion of any wrongdoing by Brighton & Hove Albion.
