Brighton & Hove Albion want to sign Deportivo de La Coruña’s David Mella, according to claims from Spain.

The winger featured regularly for the second division Spanish club last season, scoring nine goals and registering three assists from 33 games.

Earlier this week, 21noticias.com reported Brighton have shown interest in the 19-year-old. This is relayed by Onda Cero, who backs up that the Seagulls are keen on signing him.

It’s claimed the Premier League side are ‘tempting’ the Spain U19 international. The report says he can improve his salary if he moves to The Amex, but his desire is to continue with Deportivo de La Coruña.

The Seagulls can take advantage of the clause in his contract to secure Mella’s services for a reasonable price.

His contract lasts until 2026, and Onda Cero say it has a €4m release clause valid until the end of this month. The price will double [€8m] from July 1st.

Meanwhile, Deportivo de La Coruña, led by sporting director Fernando Soriano, have been trying to renew Mella’s contract since he was promoted to their first team last year.

They haven’t been successful so far, and this may give Brighton hope to try to secure his services this summer.
