For a club like Angers, rejecting €14m for their star man Karl Took-Ekambi in January was probably both the hardest and easiest decision they made all season.

Hardly blessed with great finances, the small Ligue 1 side were determined to not let the wealthy Premier League clubs bully them, turning away the aforementioned amount from Brighton, while the likes of Crystal Palace and West Brom were also said to be knocking at the door.

Toko-Ekambi admitted to rejecting the chance of joining the Seagulls in the summer, but was never given the chance to hold talks with the promoted side in January.

One thing that would certainly have happened had he started negotiations with Brighton & Hove Albion will have been discussions about an increased wage on his current €52k/month salary at Angers, according to L’Equipe.

That equates to around £11.5k/week (before tax), and there’s every chance that figure would have been at least quadrupled had he moved to the Premier League.

Given the green light to change clubs next summer, the 25-year-old will very likely get his move to England, and at the rate he’s currently scoring goals (10 in 22 appearances), the stature of his options could very well increase.
