Brighton and Hove Albion are still hoping to sell Steven Alzate this month, despite him returning to loan club Standard Liege on Monday.
That’s according to Het Belang van Limburg, who say the midfielder’s future is ‘far from certain’ at this moment in time.
Alzate returned to the Belgian side in the summer to continue his loan spell with the club into a second year after his first was held back by injuries.
He’s established himself as a key player for them in that time but whether he completes the second half of the campaign with them has been in doubt for weeks.
That’s because it’s been made clear that Brighton would like to sell him this month if they can, with his current deal expiring in the summer and no plans to sign him to an extension.
They’ve been shopping him around the market hoping for bidders, with Rangers and Valencia cited in various reports, but nobody biting as yet.
Thus the player has returned to Liege after spending time with Brighton recovering from an injury but whether he remains is ‘far from certain’.
HBVL report that Brighton ‘hope to be able to sell’ the midfielder before the end of the month before his contract expires in the summer, with this their last opportunity to get money for him.
Standard Liege, naturally, hope that won’t happen and the midfielder will remain with them until the end of the season but there is a distinct possibility that may not happen, if Brighton can find a buyer.
