Brighton and Hove Albion forward Kaoru Mitoma has been backed to have big European clubs chasing his signature next year, if he continues his performances from last season.

That’s the opinion of the man who discovered him, Maurizio Morana, who has been speaking to Tuttomercatoweb regarding the player.

Mitoma was the undisputed breakout star for Brighton last season, managing ten goals and eight assists in 41 games in all competitions as he and the Seagulls shined under Roberto De Zerbi.

He is the latest example of Brighton’s superb transfer strategy, having been signed from Kawasaki Frontale for €3m in August 2021 before being sent to Union SG in Belgium to establish himself.

He impressed there during a season-long loan deal, bagging eight goals and four assists in 29 games before returning to Brighton last summer.

He’s since taken his opportunity with both hands, becoming a key player under De Zerbi’s leadership and a bonafide Premier League star.

It now remains to be seen if he can do it for a second season and build on the solid foundations he’s built, but if he does so then Morana believes the big clubs will come calling.

“I’m in love with Mitoma,” he said.

“I discovered him at university, Kawasaki Frontale took him from there. He’s a prototype of the modern exterior, he has control, change of direction and speed.

“De Zerbi did a great job with him, establishing yourself in Premier League is never easy. If he were to repeat last year’s season, he could become a player for top European clubs.”
