Brighton and Hove Albion are set to receive ‘almost €200,000′ from Malaga over the transfer of Jack Harper in the summer of 2019.
That’s according to Malaga Hoy, who say the Seagulls are set to benefit after a judge ruled in their favour on a long-standing disagreement with the Spanish side.
Malaga Hoy explain that Malaga have ‘numerous cases’ in courts, and among them is one from Brighton, who are claiming €187,500 in transfer fees.
The issue relates to the sale of Harper to Getafe in 2019, with the Madrid club paying around €1.5m to sign the youngster.
He moved there following a spell at Brighton earlier in his career, having spent two years with the Seagulls after spending the early part of his career with Madrid’s youth sides.
He left Brighton on a free transfer, but they believe they are owed sell on fees and have taken that to court.
FIFA initially ‘agreed’ with them and ruled against the Spanish side, but the case was taken to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, where it was delayed by the pandemic.
It’s now been ruled upon, and CAS have ruled in Brighton’s favour, with them being ordered to ‘finish negotiating with Brighton’ for the payment of the debt in 12 monthly payments over the course of this year. In other words, ‘it is already clear’ that it is ‘their turn to pay’.
This has not gone down well in truth, and Malaga Hoy explain that Getafe were ‘quite generous’ in what they paid for the player at the time, particularly as they could have gotten him on a free but wanted to avoid a conflict.
Their decision to pay big has now come back to haunt Malaga, with Brighton set to benefit after CAS ruled in their favour.
