Brighton, who came very close to getting promoted to the Premier League last season, and currently second in the Championship after four games, are still trying to bolster their squad.
With two wins and two draws in their opening games of the season, Chris Hughton’s side are looking at the French league, one renowned for cheap deals for reliable players, to improve their midfield.
According to L’Equipe in France, the Championship side are trying to bring Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro from Toulouse, and have been trying to get a deal sorted over the past few days for the 23-year-old.
The French newspaper, on their website, claim an official bid could be on the way for a player who has, apparently, never tried to hide his want to play in England.
However, Brighton might not have a clear go at the midfielder as Nottingham Forest are also reported as having enquired about the player’s availability, but L’Equipe don’t go any further regarding their interest.
One of Toulouse’s main protagonists last season in Ligue 1, Akpa Akpro lost his first-team spot and the captain’s armband when Pascal Dupraz took over from Dominique Arribagé in March.
