Brighton & Hove Albion continue their pursuit of Darwin Nunez, according to Tuesday’s edition of Record.

The Portuguese newspaper says on their front page that Brighton are putting the pressure on to sign the striker.

Darwin moved to Benfica from Almeria in September 2020, and Record point out the Seagulls had also been interested at that time. In his first season with the Lisbon club, the 22-year-old scored 14 goals and added a further 12 assists.

Record say Brighton made a €30m offer last week for the player, and that attempt was quickly turned down by Benfica. Now the Premier League side are looking to improve that offer, and it’s suggested that bonuses could be added to the figure to give the Liga NOS club a chance of a higher amount should Darwin succeed in English football.

Benfica are currently resisting the South American’s exit, feeling his value could increase should he impress further in Portuguese football in the coming campaign.

That’s currently the gamble for Benfica, sell now for a quick profit or wait and hope for a much bigger fee around a year from now.

Brighton’s job is to convince them that selling now is the best idea.
