Brighton have made a ‘push’ to sign Udinese youngster Destiny Udogie as a potential replacement for Marc Cucurella.
That’s according to Tuttosport, who say the Italian side have ‘thrown up the wall’ around the player to try and keep him at the club.
They consider him one of the ‘most precious jewels’ at the club and after impressing on the left flank last season they don’t want to lose him.
That’s easier said than done, though, as Udogie has long been on the list of the big sides in Italy and was followed closely by Juventus last season.
Brighton have now joined them as they eye a replacement for Cucurella, who looks set to join Chelsea.
Udinese would like to keep Udogie for another year but in the face of an ‘irresistable offer’ of around €20m, their stance would change.
Whether Brighton would pay such an amount isn’t clear but it’s stated that they would be ‘ready to go crazy’ for Udogie. That would presumably be possible as they would be flush with the money from Cucurella’s sale.
Juventus are still in the background and continue to keep an eye on the situation but that is more a case of them watching all young Italian talent.
Thus the door could be open for Brighton to get their man, although they will need to dig deep into their pockets to do so.
