On Thursday, Inter Miami’s Diego Gómez revealed that Brighton & Hove Albion are in talks to sign him, and this was backed up by his agent, Renato Bittar, a day later.
AS claim the 21-year-old is ‘one step away’ from Brighton as they edge towards sealing a deal for him.
It’s claimed Brighton will pay $18m [£13.94m] including bonuses to buy the midfielder, who will sign a contract at The Amex until 2029.
The Paraguay international will represent his country at the Olympics and the Seagulls will complete the transfer after that.
AS say the negotiations between Brighton and Inter Miami are progressing, but the deal isn’t closed yet. The parties are optimistic of reaching a conclusion, especially considering the American side won’t put any obstacles in the way.
Inter Miami manager Gerardo Martino has now backed up AS’ claim and his comments are relayed by Versus.
“When there is interest… it’s more than interest. It’s something that sooner rather than later is going to happen. We don’t know when, and we can’t decide when. If we could decide, we would move all this to December, at the end of the year,” he said.
“Surely Diego is going to leave us, and we are very pleased with this situation, that in a year and a half he has shown all the good things he had already done in Libertad, and all the good things he did in the pre-Olympic, that he has sustained and improved them.
“I think the Premier League, and this team [Brighton] in particular, is the right place for him.”
