Brighton & Hove Albion have improved their bid for the signing for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, according to reports from Portugal.
Newspaper Record today writes that after having a first offer of €30m turned down, the Seagulls now put on the table €32m plus performance bonuses and would let the Eagles keep the percentage of a future move.
However, the outlet says Benfica are still ‘not willing to negotiate on those terms’. The club think the player can be worth a lot more if he shows his full potential this season.
The doors for the negotiations are said to be ‘closed’, as even though the Eagles want to make other sales this summer, Nunez is not on their list of exits.
It’s said Brighton also believe that the player can increase his value soon. The Seagulls had been beaten in the race for the striker when he joined Benfica on a €24m deal from Almeria in 2020, and continue to trust his potential.
It’s said the English club believe he could have his price go up in case he succeeds in the Premier League, and that’s one more reason why they trust that his signing would be worth it.
Still, Brighton don’t seem close to convincing Benfica of accepting the move.
