Brighton and Hove Albion are one of the sides interest in Werder Bremen goalkeeper Mio Backhaus, who may be on the move this summer.

That’s according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, who reports that Brighton were interested in the 20-year-old last summer.

He covers the youngster today and explains that Barcelona had showed an interest in signing and even held talks for the summer about a deal that would have seen him signed then loaned out to develop.

That won’t be happening, though, and instead Backhaus wants to become a number one at that point. That would ‘ideally’ be at Werder Bremen and if not, he’ll transfer to a different club where it is possible.

That’s made a transfer possible, and enquiries have already been made, with Brighton one of the sides interested in him last summer. FC Copenhagen showed an interest in the January transfer window.

Now it remains to be seen if Brighton revive their interest, but Backhaus may be a name to keep an eye on moving forwards, particularly with the constant rumours surrounding Bart Verbruggen.

He continues to be linked with a big money move to Bayern Munich and if that were to happen, it would open up a number one spot for Backhaus with the Seagulls.
