José Izquierdo didn’t feature for Brighton & Hove Albion last season as a knee injury forced him to miss the entire season on the sidelines.

Graham Potter has left the winger out of his plans for this season as the 28-year-old last featured for the Seagulls in April 2019.

Club Brugge were open to idea of signing their former player in the final stage of the winter market, provided the Premier League side made him available for a low cost.

Voetbal24 explain the wideman’s career is in serious trouble and there are ‘several reasons’ for Brighton to not provide an opportunity for the South American.

Potter’s side are of the belief he ‘no longer reaches the level’ expected of him. This is the first reason.

The Colombian has made 47 appearances and should the count reach to 50, Brighton will then have to pay appearances related add-ons to Club Brugge, which they want to avoid.

Izquierdo’s contract expires in the summer and his employer have no plans to offer him an extension. According to the report, the player would prefer to return to the Jupiler Pro League, where he enjoyed three seasons at Club Brugge between 2014 and 2017.

Brighton’s decision to ask for ‘transfer fee’ saw clubs in Belgium back out from making an approach for the attacker in the recently concluded window.

However, a team like Royal Antwerp would ‘like to give him a chance’, if Izquierdo is available on a free transfer in the summer.
