Michal Karbownik hasn’t made an appearance for Brighton & Hove Albion since he joined them from Legia Warsaw in 2020.
The Seagulls have sent the 22-year-old out on loan since 2020 and last summer allowed him to join Fortuna Düsseldorf, who have an option to make his stay permanent.
After initially taking time to adjust at the second division German club, the Brighton owned player has impressed this season. That has helped him return to the Poland squad [for March’s international break] for the first time since 2020.
Four days ago, Polish journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk explained the left-back has attracted interest from other clubs. He had also stated Düsseldorf would exercise the buying option and then sell him to another club in the summer.
Local newspaper Rheinische Post also explains Karbownik’s future will be away from the German club.
The report focuses on Düsseldorf’s need for a ‘major upheaval’ in the squad next season as some of the important players ‘will leave’ the club. This includes Dawid Kownacki and Karbownik, on loan from Brighton.
Düsseldorf will have to ‘compensate’ the loss of the two players and to do this, they will have to find ways to generate income.
Karbownik’s deal at Brighton expires in 2024 and it needs to be seen where he will play next season.
