Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen has made it clear he does not want to be sent out on loan again come the end of the season.
RTV Drenthe cover comments from the goalkeeper today in which he makes his transfer stance clear to his parent club.
Scherpen is currently on loan at Austrian side Sturm Graz. He initially joined them in July 2023 but a cruciate ligament tear in December that year ruined that initial spell. He spent 22 games on the sidelines and only returned at the end of July.
Brighton agreed to loan him out again this season and he’s been a regular for Sturm Graz so far, with 21 games in all competitions.
The 24-year-old is hoping to kick on after a frustrating year on the sidelines and in general. He joined Brighton in a €5m deal back in 2021 after being highly rated at Dutch giants Ajax.
He has never really been given a chance with the Seagulls, though. Instead, he’s been sent out on loan to KV Ostend, Vitesse Arnhem and now Sturm Graz.
That’s something he wants to see come to an end, although whether that means a permanent move to Austria remains to be seen.
“It is definitely not the intention to be loaned out again,” he said.
“I will have had two great years here and I would prefer to take another step up to a better competition. But hey, you never know in football. Who knows, there may still be a longer stay, but you can never predict that.”
