On Wednesday, there were rumblings that newly-promoted Brighton & Hove Albion could be interested in AC Milan’s Gianluca Lapadula, and now Gazzetta dello Sport seem to confirm it.

Looking at the ins and outs at AC Milan, the Italian newspaper claim the Seagulls have indeed met with those in charge at the Italian club and have made ‘an important offer’ for their number 9.

The newspaper don’t have any specifics regarding the bid, but considering the Serie A side spent £7.6m on the now 27-year-old last summer, you would expect Brighton’s bid to be above that for it to be deemed ‘important’.

Bought after a terrific season in Serie B with Pescara (27 goals and 11 assists in 40 league games), Lapadula didn’t quite have the same impact in Serie A, even if his return of eight goals and four assists in 12 league starts (27 appearances overall) isn’t anything to be ashamed about.

Needing to bolster their squad with quality ahead of a tough season in the Premier League, it wouldn’t be surprising if Brighton were to make a few big signings by their standards this year.

And while Glenn Murray, Sam Baldock and Tomer Hemed were all in decent form for them last season, bringing in another striker to add depth and quality to their squad might not be the worst idea.
