Brighton & Hove Albion are looking to have success where Southampton, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers didn’t, in the chase for Benfica’s Gonçalo Ramos.

‘Brighton want Ramos’ is written in bold on the front page of today’s Record. Within the report, summer efforts from Southampton, Newcastle and Wolves get a mention.

The trio are still thought to be in the mix and Brighton have the opportunity to beat the three Premier League sides to a deal.

It’s claimed the Seagulls have sought to know the conditions needed to sign the forward. To do this, they have already made contact.

Benfica are thought to want €40m for Ramos and this could be an obstacle for Roberto De Zerbi’s side. The newspaper says Brighton would wan to negotiate this figure down.

His asking price could ‘skyrocket’ if the Benfica man impresses for Portugal at the 2022 World Cup. If that were to happen, then it will become more complicated for Brighton.

Brighton would be delighted to know the option to make a switch to England pleases the attacker, but his immediate focus is on Benfica, with whom he has managed 12 goals and registered six assists this season.

Then he can wait for the Seagulls, Wolves, Newcastle Southampton, or newly interested sides, to make their move.
