Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly ready to spend €20m on a late signing from the Championship.
It’s Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web who brings this strange exclusive today, saying the Seagulls are looking to buy Neal Maupay from Brentford.
The website calls the 22-year-old a ‘luxury’ signing for Brighton, who would be ‘beating their record’ if spending that amount on the player.
The Seagulls may have actually spent more when they signed Adam Webster, but that still gives an idea of how expensive Maupay would be.
Tutto Mercato Web writes that Maupay had a chance to choose between Brentford and Brighton in the past, and his previous option ended up being ‘expensive’, especially for the Seagulls.
The striker just had an impressive season in the Championship with 25 goals and eight assists in 34 appearances.
Brentford only spent €2m to sign the player from St. Etienne back in 2017, so getting ten times that after only two years wouldn’t be too bad.
