Brighton are showing an interest in IFK Norrkoping defender Linus Wahlqvist, according to claims in the Swedish media. The 20-year-old has been linked with a move to Leeds United in recent weeks, along with other clubs.

Fotboll Direkt have reported Brighton are the latest club to show an interest in the Sweden international, and were even considering moving in for the player during the recent transfer window.

With Brighton aiming for promotion to the Premier League the Championship side were giving consideration to signing the right back, but face competition with Leeds United, along with Napoli and Valencia.

However, Wahlqvist has recently stated he would like to see out his contract with Norrkoping, but doesn’t rule out a move abroad in the future.

Last month Wahlqvist said he would entertain playing in the Championship after being asked about the interest from Leeds United.

Leeds United were linked with a move for Wahlqvist in November, with claims they were lining up an offer for the player in this window.
