Brighton and Hove Albion are interested in Sassuolo midfielder Maxime Lopez this summer, with a departure from the Italian club a possibility.
That’s according to RMC Sport, who say the Seagulls are one of several sides showing interest in the 25-year-old.
They explain that despite being signed to a contract until 2025 there is a chance that Lopez will be ‘at the heart of a new transfer’ this summer in a deal worth €15-20m.
That’s because he has ‘several suitors’ all keen on a move for him, including Brighton, who saw an offer rejected for him in the January transfer window.
They’re facing the possibility of needing to rebuild their midfield this summer, with Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister both linked with big moves away and manager Roberto de Zerbi admitting that they could depart.
Thus, they will need replacements and Lopez, who De Zerbi worked alongside during his time at Sassuolo, is seemingly on their list.
He has ‘confirmed his status’ as a key player for the Italian club this season, regularly showing his ‘qualities with the ball’, so much so that he has garnered interest around Europe.
Those skills would certainly help him fit well into a team like Brighton, although they would face competition from Sevilla, Roma and Napoli for his signature.
