Brighton & Hove Albion star Leandro Trossard scored his first goal of the campaign in his side’s 2-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday.
The winger turned wing-back’s contract runs down in 2023 and the Seagulls have an option to further extended it by a year.
Monday’s Het Belang van Limburg says Brighton are keen not to lose the 27-year-old and don’t want to trigger the option to extend his deal until 2024.
Instead, Graham Potter’s side intend to offer the Belgium international a long-term deal through ‘classic negotiations’.
The ex-Genk man is ‘important’ for the Premier League club and they want to secure his long-term future.
It’s claimed the player and his entourage are open to him signing a new deal at The Amex despite vague interest from other clubs.
His agent, Josy Comhair, has stressed Trossard will not make a move away from Brighton for the sake it, especially during the World Cup year.
“…Leandro will get even better. But Leandro will not leave just to leave. If he were to consider a switch, it must be a really attractive project, with guarantees on playing minutes. There is a World Cup coming up, it is crucial for Leandro to keep rhythm,” Comhair was quoted as saying by HBVL.
