German side St Pauli are hopeful of keeping Brighton and Hove Albion duo Leo Östigard and Victor Gyökeres at the club next season.
The Seagulls youngsters spent last season on loan with the German side, impressing and becoming key players as they finished 14th in the 2.Bundesliga.
Both players have since returned to Brighton after their loans came to an end this summer, but it’s yet to be decided whether they will stay at the club or be moving out again for the coming season.
St Pauli are hoping they can keep them, with MOPO reporting that sports director Andreas Bornemann is ‘very close’ to the situation and already ‘in contact’ with both Brighton and the players to explore the possibility of them returning.
Whether that can happen is yet unknown, but it is made clear the German club have ‘not yet finished’ their pursuit of both players.
Indeed, there is a desire from everyone at the club to get them back, with coach Timo Schultz admitting he will go to extreme lengths to see it happen.
“We have both on the list and would like to have them both back here,” he’s reported as saying.
“If there is any sign, I will take my bike to Brighton and pick them up if necessary, that is not the issue at all.”
