Brighton & Hove Albion had an offer for Independiente winger Alan Velasco turned down, according to reports from the Argentine media at the weekend.
Big outlets such as Olé, TNT Sports and TyC Sports all say the Seagulls made an attempt to get the 18-year-old, but will have to keep negotiating for him.
Olé is probably the one who brings the most complete information. They say Brighton offered €6m for Velasco, and Independiente ‘will reject the bid’.
The player is protected by a release clause of US$23.5m, and to ‘start talking’, the Argentine club will demand at least US$15m.
TNT Sports highlights the fact that the bid was ‘formal’, and adds that Independiente turned it down because he’s worth twice as much. They say he’s targeted by several clubs from abroad.
Back at the start of April, it had been Newcastle United who were linked to Velasco. But now it seems Brighton moved first, and by the looks of it, we’ll soon have more interesting news on this chase.
