Brighton & Hove Albion are showing an interest in Sevilla full-back Juanlu Sánchez and a potential move in the January transfer window.
That’s according to Diario de Sevilla, who say they are ‘following’ the defender closely and have already demonstrated a desire to make a transfer happen.
The newspaper reports that after breaking through under José Luis Mendilibar last season, Juanlu has continued in the first team this season and is earning praise for his performances.
The plan for Sevilla is to offer him a new contract, particularly as Brighton and Osasuna are known to be following the fullback.
Diario say that Roberto De Zerbi, alongside Jagoba Arrasate, is aware that Juanlu has a bright future ahead of him and has shown interest in him ‘with the intention of achieving a transfer’.
For the moment the player is calm and focused on his football and his entourage are comfortable with him being at Sevilla, but they are yet to contact him regarding a renewal. His current deal includes a €15m clause, although it rises to €25m in January.
Brighton’s interest goes back to the summer when they showed a willingness to do a deal as part of their ongoing project to bet on young and talented players. He certainly falls into that category.
They would be an ‘interesting project’ for the player should he be tempted to leave Sevilla, although for now that does not appear to be in his thinking.
