Brighton & Hove Albion and Napoli remain in talks over defender Leo Ostigard, with an agreement likely to be reached ‘within a few weeks’.
That’s according to Corriere del Mezzogiorno, who say the talks are not advancing at any rapid pace.
Ostigard spent the second half of last season on loan with Genoa, impressing in the heart of their defence despite their eventually relegation.
Indeed, his performances earned him the attention of Napoli, who are keen on adding him to their squad this summer to fill the fourth centre-back position.
Talks have been underway with Brighton for several weeks over a deal, with the Seagulls needing to sell as Ostigard is in the final year of his current deal and unlikely to sign an extension.
The two are yet to reach an agreement, though, with reports this week that Brighton want €5m up front, but Napoli instead want to sign the defender on loan with an obligation to buy next summer.
Thus the negotiations have been creeping along, and Corriere del Mezzogiorno don’t provide any hope of them speeding up.
They say that while negotiations with Brighton are at an ‘advanced stage’, the feeling is that an agreement between both clubs will only be reached ‘within a few weeks’.
It seems, then, we’re set for a few more Ostigard to Napoli updates this summer, even though it should have been tied up long ago and then some.
