Last month, Inter Miami’s Diego Gómez confirmed his agents have held discussions with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Four days later, AS reported the Seagulls are a step away from completing his signing.

Brighton have still not managed to get this deal over the line and AS provides the latest on this case.

The deal isn’t in danger as the report says the Premier League side are ‘close to signing’ the 21-year-old.

It’s claimed he has ‘almost everything in place’ to become a new Brighton player. The English club will pay just over $17m [£13.2m] for one of the ‘continent’s prospects’ and this is a ‘bargain’ deal.

The Paraguay international represented his country at the Olympics and has returned to Miami. The midfielder has been one of the key players for Inter Miami, especially during Lionel Messi’s absence.

Gómez’s transfer to Brighton hasn’t been made official yet, and AS say Inter Miami coaching staff have made an express request to have the player until the end of this year. This is the condition Fabian Hürzeler’s side have to fulfil to get the deal over the line.

AS claim Brighton are waiting for Gómez’s arrival in the winter market and this indicates they have accepted Inter Miami’s request.
