Brighton and Hove Albion are in talks with Benfica about a loan move for midfielder Gabriel this summer.
That’s according to Record, who say talks are at an ‘embryonic stage’ over a season-long loan deal for the 27-year-old.
They explain that the midfielder has been training on the fringes of the main Benfica squad for the last few months, but his future is likely to be resolved soon.
That’s because Brighton have made their move for the midfielder, alongside two proposals for Darwin Nunez, and are ‘already in talks’ about making a move happen.
They are aiming to sign him on loan until the end of the season, and talks are in the early stages, so there is work to be done to define the deal.
Brighton would prefer a ‘simple loan’ that would see them paying some of Gabriel’s wages, but the possibility of including an option to buy or Brighton paying all of the wages is also on the cards.
Benfica’s main objective is to secure a sale or, at the minimum, do a loan deal with a mandatory purchase at the end of it.
Their hope is that proposals may arise offering such a deal in the coming weeks, and there is interest from Spain in that regard.
Brighton, though, are the only ones who have made a firm move and perhaps if they’re willing to do a bit of negotiating, they can get their man ahead of the competition.
