Brentford are close to signing Grêmio fullback Vanderson, according to reports from the player’s country.

Several reliable outlets from the Brazilian media claim that the 20-year-old should be on his way to the Premier League side in January, following an agreement in principle between the clubs.

UOL were the first to report it, claiming that the transfer is seen as ‘imminent’. They were then followed by TNT Sports, Globo Esporte and Goal, with the last two claiming Grêmio already accepted Brentford’s offer.

Most of these reports say the English club are initially paying €11m for the move, and performance bonuses could make the transfer cost up to €14m.

Vanderson was able to show his potential this season despite being a difficult year for him, as he had the competition from former Bayern Munich fullback Rafinha in his position, and Grêmio went through a poor campaign which saw them relegated.

His performances drew the interest from several clubs, with UOL claiming that he was approached by Spartak Moscow, Tottenham, AC Milan and Newcastle United.

Both UOL and Globo Esporte claim that Brentford had already tried to sign the player in the summer, but couldn’t convince Grêmio at the time. Now with the club’s relegation, it was easier to find a deal.

It’s said that the Premier League side will now negotiate the personal terms with the player.
