Antoni Milambo’s recent trip to England will have played no factor in a potential move to Brentford, as he regularly visits the country.
That’s according to ‘Feyenoord watcher’ Martijn Krabbendam for Voetbal International, relayed by Soccer News, who pours a hefty dose of cold water on the transfer.
Milambo appeared to be edging closer to a move to Brentford this summer after it was reported they were keen on signing him and already working on doing so.
Reports made it clear that talks were underway between Milambo and Brentford, with the latter reportedly happy to pay his wage demands. It was even reported last week that Milambo had been in England to finalise an agreement before the weekend.
Feyenoord were also well aware of the talks and, according to the reports in the Netherlands, expecting Brentford to make a formal bid sooner rather than later.
The belief was that the transfer was as good as done and everyone was happy, but it has since been pulled back, with doubts over whether it will actually happen as Milambo was perceived to be having something of a wobble. In other words, he was questioning the idea.
Now Krabbendam insists he’s against moving at the end of this season and any trips to England won’t have to do with talking to Brentford.
“He has been to England, but not necessarily to talk to Brentford,” he said.
“There is much more interest in Milambo than just Brentford. I understand that he often goes to England, because his friend Summerville plays there. He is there regularly. Now his mother also came along.
“Again: there is a lot of interest and that makes sense. Only 20 years old, Champions League experience. He still has ups and downs, but he has all the conditions to become a good player. It is busy in midfield at Feyenoord now that Steijn is also coming.
“Van Persie is a fan of his, so I don’t think he should be afraid now that Steijn is coming. That he has to leave, that’s up to him and what Feyenoord wants. If the offer is high enough, they will think about it. But I understand that it is not Milambo’s intention to leave Feyenoord after this season.”
Some fans turned against the player after the Brentford news so this could be an attempt to get them back on side.
