Brentford have emerged as one of the contenders to sign Marquinhos Cipriano, a source has told Sport Witness.

The 23-year-old is on a season-long loan deal at FC Sion from Shakhtar Donetsk, and the Swiss side have an option to buy him after this campaign.

Late on Monday, AS stated that Sion intend to make the defender’s stay permanent and then look to cash in from his sale in the summer. When discussing his suitors, Brentford were tagged.

It was also stated that Hertha Berlin and VfB Stuttgart have ‘already met’ Sion to know the conditions to carry out the deal for the Brazilian.

A source has told Sport Witness that Brentford have also held talks with Sion to see if a potential deal could be worked out for the left-back.

At the moment, it is too early to suggest whether Cipriano could join Thomas Frank’s side in the summer. What is likely for now is that Sion will make his deal permanent and then immediately look to sell the South American in the next window.

Cipriano has made 31 appearances in all competitions this season for Sion, managing two assists in the process.
