Brentford are showing ‘serious’ interest in TSG Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier and had ‘knocked on the door’ about a move this month.
That’s according to journalist Christian Falk, who reports that Brentford were open to doing a €30m deal but were rebuffed by the German side and the player.
Beier has earned himself a growing reputation in Germany over the last few years and that has increased this season, with him currently sitting on seven goals and five assists in 17 games in the Bundesliga this season.
Brentford were pulled into the mix at the end of December, with a report stating that they were continuing to show an interest in him but would need to pay €32.5m to sign him.
The Bees may find themselves needing to find a replacement for him in future and Beier is a potential option, which Falk reports led to talks happening this month but not going anywhere for now.
“He’s already a regular for us on English Week, the English have him very much on their radar and that’s why there are always hot rumours about him,” he said.
“He’s now back in form at Hoffenheim and I’ve heard Brentford are serious. They have already knocked on the door to see if they could have him for €30m or more.
“They would have liked to make an offer, but it didn’t happen because it was quickly signalled no, he won’t leave in winter. He has an exit clause of €32.5m which decreases by €2.5m per year but he doesn’t want to leave in winter.”
