Brentford are considering signing Grêmio’s Gustavo Nunes this summer, according to claims from Brazil.
The 18-year-old made his first team debut for the Brazilian club at the start of this year, and managed five goals and registered four assists from 33 games.
According to UOL, Brentford, AS Monaco, Bayer Leverkusen and a few unnamed Premier League sides are looking to sign the forward.
These clubs have initiated contacts and the Bees have taken a further step by making a €10m for 70% of the youngster’s rights. This hasn’t convinced Grêmio, who want more to sanction his sale.
Nunes’ deal lasts until December 2028 and the report states it has a €80m release clause. This report was covered by journalist André Hernan, and he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to claim Grêmio want at least €20m to sit at the negotiating table.
UOL’s claim is backed up Globo Esporte, who then add Brentford made an offer on Friday. The two clubs will continue to hold talks even though the fee offered by Thomas Frank’s side hasn’t pleased Grêmio.
Meanwhile, Grêmio president Alberto Guerra recently talked about the possibility of selling Nunes this summer.
“I’ll worry about that when it arrives, it’s a lot of talk, much more talk than reality. As president, we cannot work with this if it is not a serious, effective proposal. So far nothing has arrived. When it arrives, we will see and discuss and decide whether it is the case or not. But it really isn’t the intention, we need all our strength at this moment,” he said, as quoted by Globo.
If Brentford were to double their offer, they would have a chance to sign Nunes.
