Back in June, reports from the Brazilian media revealed that Manchester City had invited Roger Gabriel to train at the club.
The 16-year-old belongs to Bahia, another club from the City Football Group, and due to his performances for the South American side, he could have this interchange to gain more experience.
As now reported by Globo Esporte, Roger is already training with Manchester City. He’s been working with the U-19 squad, and is enjoying that experience.
The player talked a little about the days he’s been spending in England, and explained he’s been learning a lot from his time there.
“Very happy, being able get close is rewarding. It plays a movie in your head. It was an immense joy to be able to come and train, absorb everything that is here. It was extreme joy. Another atmosphere, it seems like something from another world.
“It’s different here, the atmosphere, the pitch, the way the coaches are. It will help me mentality and to develop as a player.”
Bahia’s official website also shares his visit to Manchester City, and at no time there’s any mention of him moving to the English club, partly because he’d need to turn 18 before that.
This exchange trip is something that should become more common in the coming years, as Bahia were recently taken over by the City Football Group and should now see their players being evaluated by other clubs who share the same owners.
Despite his young age, Roger has already made his debut for Bahia’s firs team, and will certainly return to Brazil looking for more.
