Ferland Mendy is increasingly wanted by Europe’s biggest clubs this summer.

The 23 year old Lyon left back is the subject of serious Real Madrid interest, with Sunday’s Marca saying the club will do everything to sign him. Over at Tuttosport they report Juventus are also keen, joined by Barcelona and Napoli, although he may be out of reach for the latter.

Juve would need to see fullbacks leave to make the signing happen, and that’s where Manchester United come into the picture.

It’s claimed both Manchester clubs are keen on right back Joao Cancelo, but the bigger story is about Alex Sandro.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and PSG are all credited with having interest. The Brazilian is ‘on the list’ for the Old Trafford club, with regards to signings this summer.

It wouldn’t really be the approach to a transfer window without Alex Sandro being linked with a big move away from Juve, but despite all the claims of the past nothing has actually happened.

Sandro is 28 years of age and isn’t quite as important for Juventus as he once was. The ideal for the Turin club would obviously be Manchester United overpaying for him, which would allow Juve to get Mendy and still turn a profit.

It poses the question as to why, if they are interested in a left back, both Manchester clubs don’t look at Mendy themselves.
