Liverpool still have six games to play before they go to the Club World Cup and start facing teams from outside of Europe. That’s why there’s no reason for the Reds to be very concerned about the international tournament right now.
However, there’s some big excitement in Rio de Janeiro, where Flamengo are looking forward to facing Jurgen Klopp’s side in the competition.
Liverpool and Flamengo are both entering the competition in the semifinal, and although there’s a chance they may not get to the final, fans of the Brazilian side are pretty sure they’re playing, and beating, the Reds on the 21st of December.
Flamengo won both the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian League last weekend. When playing Ceará at home last night, in a game where they received the league trophy, their fans had a special chant for Liverpool.
‘Hey Liverpool, you shall wait, your time is coming’
Flamengo beat Liverpool 3-0 in the Intercontinental Cup in 1981, and their fans have a famous song for that match. Now they hope they can do it again.
“Flamengo are a great team, just like Liverpool, and we are prepared to face any opponent,” midfielder Gerson told Sportv (via UOL).
“They’re a great team that won the Champions League, they have great players from various places. We have to prepare well to win the semifinal and come to this game,” said Everton Ribeiro.
